Coexist Music & Media Centre

Coexist Music and Media Centre (CMMC) is ushering in an exciting new phase for Hamilton House.  Based directly behind the Canteen on the first floor of the building, CMMC is redeveloping one of the last unused floors into a purpose built creative hub for the Bristol music and media industries.

Our vision is to become a one stop creative hub that supports the massive array of talent in Bristol.  We are doing this through a step-by-step process, creating sustainable and affordable rehearsal rooms, recording studios and soundproofed offices - catering to individuals, groups, and businesses alike.

We also aim to develop a supportive infrastructure of creative professionals, which will allow us to support the local music and media industries by facilitating wide ranging connections.  We aim to support the local industry whoever and whatever stage you’re at - whether you’re a fully established locally based international company, or an individual making your first steps to learning a new instrument or media skill.  With this in mind, the spaces we are building will be economically viable to allow access by as many different types of clients as possible.

The development of CMMC is unfolding as a four stage process, as follows:

Stage 1: Building Sound Treated Offices

The creation of a set of four sound treated offices, transforming the most derelict part of the first floor as the initial step towards a fully-fledged music and media centre.

Progress: Completed, with all 4 offices now fully let.  CMMC welcome on board their first 5 tenants, catering for a video production company, a mastering specialist, an animation company, a guitar tutor and a local radio station.

Stage 2: Building Soundproofed Studio Offices

By creating a further 4 soundproofed offices, we will be able to widen the scope of tenants we can cater for by allowing access to music and media professionals who need to work at higher volumes.

Progress:  In final planning stages, with implementation imminent.

Stage 3: Public Access Area

This will see the front block of CMMC developed into a publicly accessible music and media facility that provides beneficial and affordable space, hired out by the hour.

This could take the shape of a suite of rehearsal rooms and recording studio, or other possible formats that will best serve the local industries and community.

Progress:  In early planning stages, undergoing wide consultation on the best use of space.

Stage 4:  CMMC Network

Providing an infrastructure for a professional and supportive hub based around CMMC, that supports the music and media industries as needed and facilitates connections throughout the local area.

Progress: Early stages of implementation – look out for our networking events! Our first one is now scheduled – April 24th 2012, at The Square Club, 15 Berkley Square, starting at 7.30pm.  Email us for more details!

There are many aspects of this project that are still in the early stages, and nothing is ‘set in stone’!  We would love to have your input on the project. Please drop us an email at musicandmedia@coexistuk.org to get in touch, join in the conversation, and request to sign up to the newsletter.  In particular, we’re planning the Public Access Area now, so we would love to hear from solo artists, bands, DJ's, VJ's, and creative businesses - anyone that wants to join in!

We host regular events to support local artists and raise the profile of the CMMC project – so be sure to sign up to the Hamilton House newsletter to be kept in the loop!
